Overview

The NEET Exam 2026 is a national-level medical entrance test for undergraduate admissions in India, mainly for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, etc. Recently, it's been facing significant controversy. The exam originally held on May 3, 2026, was cancelled due to severe irregularities and allegations of a paper leak, with a re-examination scheduled for 21st June 2026.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is conducted only once a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India, offering candidates one chance annually. The exam is held in offline mode, with pen-and-paper, covering vital subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who want to appear in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) need to meet the specific NEET 2026 eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements are set by the National Medical Commission (NMC), including age, nationality and educational qualifications.

  • Minimum 17 years old as of 31st December of the admission year.
  • No upper age limit.
  • Passed or appearing in 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
  • General/EWS: 50% in PCB.
  • OBC/SC/ST: 40% in PCB.
  • Persons with Disability (PH/PwD): 45%.
  • No restriction on the number of attempts.
  • Indian Citizens, OCIs, PIOs, NRIs and Foreign Nationals are eligible subject to applicable rules.
  • Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject is permitted under applicable rules.

Exam Pattern

The NEET Exam Pattern is expected to remain similar to previous years, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). NEET Exam 2026 is a 3-hour and 20-minute-long pen-and-paper-based test comprising 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), out of which 180 must be answered.

The paper covers subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology). The total marks are 720, with a marking scheme of +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers.
